This apartment, situated in a 19xxs building, now unveils itself post-renovation, freshly awakened from decades of slumber. Gone are the days of cramped, enclosed spaces; in their stead, a vast, inviting expanse emerges, further accentuated by breathtaking vistas of the Engadin Inn Valley.
Right from the start, both the homeowner and Studio C agreed on the necessity of restructuring and redesigning the apartment. Consequently, nearly all pre-existing walls in the central living and kitchen area were dismantled to create an open floor plan, basking in natural light thanks to the balcony and expansive windows.
Caty explains: “To underscore this place's warmth and openness, we opted for a minimalist concept that harnesses the power of simplicity.”
Studio C’s choice of materials is both meticulous and minimalistic: oak wood for floors, cabinets, and furnishings; black metal for door frames, handles, and fixtures; black steel for the fireplace; and light ceramics for the tiles. These materials harmonise seamlessly with one another and ultimately blend into the apartment's signature design.
The remaining furniture blends seamlessly into the interior, characterised by its clean, straightforward forms—simple, neutral, and yet undeniably elegant. The ‘wood with black’ aesthetic in the bathrooms may initially catch you off guard, but upon closer examination, the striking effect becomes clear: the black infuses an unexpected elegance into the space, serving as the perfect complement to the warm wood tones and beige tiles.
